The Legislative Review Subcommittee aims to work towards uniform national standards of legislation and practice. It meets as required to review and monitor developments in legislation that are relevant to adoption and permanent care throughout Australia.Its core members are the NSW Committee on Adoption and Permanent Care’s Chairperson, government and non-government adoption service providers and other Committee members as relevant to the particular legislation or issue.The Subcommittee makes recommendations with regard to legislation, practice and policy to relevant Ministers and Senior Government administrators and has made a valuable contribution to many legislative reviews.Some recent responses developed by the Legislative Review Subcommittee include:
- A response the Review of the NSW Birth Certificate
- A response on the draft Code of Conduct for authorised foster, relative and kinship carers.
- A response to the Department’s Statutory Review of the Adoption Regulation 2003.
- A response to the NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into managing information related to donor conception
- A response to the NSW Government’s Discussion Paper titled ‘Child Protection: Legislative Reform Legislative Proposals’
- A response to the Senate Inquiry into all aspects of the conduct of the 2013 Federal Election
- A response to the Senate Inquiry into Australian Citizenship Amendment (Intercountry Adoption) Bill 2014
- A response to the Department’s Regulatory Impact Statement on the Statutory Review of the Adoption Regulation 2003.
